Companies Expect Germany’s Coronavirus Restrictions to Last until Mid-September
German companies expect many more months of restrictions on public life and their own businesses. This is a finding of the ifo Institute’s latest Business Survey. According to the survey, companies expect restrictions on public life to last another 7.4 months. They do not expect their own businesses to return to normal for another 10.3 months. “Both figures are only slightly lower than in December. The vaccination campaign now underway has yet to have a decisive impact,” says Klaus Wohlrabe, Head of Surveys at ifo.
The individual sectors differ only marginally in their assessments. Manufacturers expect restrictions on public life to last another 7.4 months, service providers expect 7.5 months, trade 7.2 months, and construction 7.3 months.
Manufacturers do not expect their own businesses to return to normal for another 10.2 months. Service providers expect it will take another 10.6 months, retail 9.3 months, and construction 10.4 months.
