It all started in 2016.

Ms. Opal set out on her mission to make Juneteenth a national holiday.

2016 Route:

Ms. Opal planned a 1,400 mile route from Fort Worth, TX to Washington, DC.

2021 Route:

Ms. Opal embarked on a 2.5 mile route from Fort Worth, TX to Washington, DC. to recognize the 2.5 years it took for the news of freedom to reach all enslaved people in the United States. Opal’s walk this year was very successful and had other people walking with Ms. Opal.

Walk Anywhere In The World:
