Cindy Allen

Lauded as "one of the most influential advocates for the interior design industry," Allen has been Editor in Chief of Interior Design for 15 years. Since her editorship in 2001, Allen has established herself as a force in elevating the publication’s importance and exposure—strengthening its credentials as the main ambassador of design while proving it the vehicle of growth and success for the industry it represents. She has published nine books on design and actively participates in a variety of panels, juries, roundtables, speaking engagements, and industry events worldwide.  Recipient of the 2010 Circle of Excellence Award from IFDA and the 2009 Alpha Award by Alpha Workshops, Allen has served as juror for the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards and the Gensler Design Excellence Awards, and she is a board member for Design Trust for Public Space and Alpha Workshops.

Malene Barnett is the Founder of the Black Artists + Designers Guild, a global platform representing a curated collective of independent black artists, makers, and designers across various art and design disciplines. By providing opportunities and visibility for guild members, Barnett seeks new ways to define the black narrative and experience for a new generation while bringing awareness to inequality.  Barnett is an artist and authority on the cultural traditions, practices, and the black experience of art in the African diaspora. Through her investigation of traditional African art forms in the finest wools, silks, and clay, her work continues to uncover a deeper language of heritage and the preservation of her legacy and cultural identity. She is a passionate connector and expert ambassador for underrepresented creators, with a mission to open doors to inclusivity for the next generation of black artists.

As Director of Scottsdale Public Art, Kim Boganey is responsible for the vision of Scottsdale’s nationally recognized public art program, which serves as a leader in defining art in the public realm through creative place-making, signature events, exhibitions, and installations, all which contribute to the community’s creative, cultural, and economic vitality. This includes management of the City’s Art in Public Places and Art in Private Development projects, oversight for the care and maintenance of the City’s 1,000+ objects in the portable and public art collection, supervision of temporary exhibitions held at Civic Center and Appaloosa libraries, and leadership for Scottsdale’s award winning annual 10-day free public art event, Canal Convergence.  Prior to joining the Scottsdale team in 2017, Boganey served as the Public Art Coordinator in Raleigh, NC.

Thierry Boissel

Thierry Boissel is a French artist based in Germany. He is the head of the stained glass Departement at the  Academie of Fine Arts in Munich. He studied at the National College of Art and Design in Paris. After visiting an exhibition about contemporary stained glass in the Chartres International Stained Glass Centre in 1983, he decided to dedicate his life to the research for expressions in contemporary glass art. His research takes the situation of the light, the space and the individual use of the place into consideration as well as the deep reflection of the materials history and the Color of Glass. He has created about 50 works of art in commissions, winning competitions around the world. His work in the St.-Joseph church in Montigny–lès–Cormeilles near Paris was awarded the top Liturgical prize by the CODAawards in 2020.

Eventscape’s team operates at the forefront of digital fabrication, working in multiple materials with the latest equipment and technologies and supported by advanced CAD and parametric design software.

Frances Bronet is president of Pratt Institute in New York City. An educator and leader at the forefront of interdisciplinary learning, Bronet previously served as senior vice president and provost at Illinois Institute of Technology; acting provost and dean of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts of the University of Oregon; and architecture professor, associate dean, and acting dean at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Her extensively funded work on multidisciplinary design curricula — from architecture and engineering to dance and fine arts, coupled with her own action-based installations with internationally acclaimed artists — have been highly recognized. Bronet holds architecture and engineering professional degrees from McGill University; she received her graduate degree from Columbia University. She was licensed by the Quebec Ordre des Architectes, and has practiced in multiple award-winning offices in New York and Canada, including her own in Montreal.

James Carpenter has worked at the intersection of fine art, architecture and engineering for nearly 50 years, advancing a distinctive vision conceptually founded on the optical and material properties of materials and light as they reveal the presence of nature. Originally studying architecture before concentrating on the fine arts, Carpenter exhibited in the United States and Europe through the 1970s, creating immersive film installations. Carpenter established James Carpenter Design Associates in 1979 which is devoted to transforming the public realm through public art and design projects. Carpenter has been recognized with numerous national and international awards, including the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship and the Smithsonian National Environment Design Award. He holds a degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and was a Loeb Fellow of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.

Jean Cooney is the Director of Times Square Arts, the public art program of the Times Square Alliance, which presents public art and amplifies artists’ voices in the world's most iconic urban places. Over the course of the program’s ten-year history, Times Square Arts has worked with hundreds of emerging and established artists representing a diverse range of disciplines to activate the district's electronic billboards, public plazas, and vacant spaces. Prior to her role at Times Square Arts, Jean spent seven years at the public arts non-profit Creative Time, playing a critical role in the organization’s major artist commissions and cultural partnerships. During her tenure there, Jean had the opportunity to work on some of Creative Time’s most celebrated public projects, including Nick Cave’s HEARD•NY in Grand Central Terminal, Kara Walker’s A Subtlety… at the former Domino Sugar factory, and Duke Riley’s Fly By Night at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Chad Oppenheim is a Miami-based architect whose work has been praised for its ability to transform the prosaic into the poetic. A graduate of Cornell University and Fellow of the AIA, Oppenheim has lectured widely and has taught at various architecture schools, including Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and, most recently, Cornell University’s  College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. In 1999, he founded Oppenheim Architecture (Miami, Basel, New York), which has garnered global recognition. The international practice has received over 80 industry awards, with more than 50 from the AIA, including the AIA’s highest distinction, the Silver Medal, as well as a 2018 National Design Award from Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. The award-winning firm’s work has been featured in over 1,000 publications around the world, including multiple appearances in the New York Times and Architectural Record.

Annette Ridenour has been a leader in health care design for 40 years as president and founder of Aesthetics, Inc., her multidisciplinary design firm. She has been described as a practical visionary for her ability to combine explorative thought with strategic thinking focused upon implementation. She is a natural group leader with healthcare organizations, assisting them in their processes to create physical facility development, which reflects their institutional mission and goals. Annette is one of the pioneers of the field of art and healthcare. She is past national president of the Society for the Arts in Healthcare, where she was a founding board member. She is currently a board member of the National Organization of Arts in Health and is one of its founders. Numerous articles by and about her have appeared in such publications as Healthcare Design, Health Facilities Management, Healthcare Building Ideas, and Spirituality & Health.

Paula Stoeke has been a curator practicing in the field of public art for over 30 years and has directed exhibitions and permanent installations throughout the United States, Asia, Australia and Western Europe. Paula was the co-founder and curator of the International Sculpture Biennale of Rome. While serving as the Director of The Sculpture Foundation, she advised private and corporate collectors on their thematic and aesthetic content and participated in the acquisition of works for Grounds For Sculpture’s collection. Paula has guided cities in the formation of decision-making councils and in the development and expansion of public arts programming, always encouraging public/private partnership. She has curated exhibitions for multiple museums, cities, world’s fairs, political conventions and the Olympics. Residing in Los Angeles, she is currently Curator for The Seward Johnson Atelier.

Ilene Shaw

Ilene Shaw has devoted her career to the advocacy of good design. A design marketing consultant who conceived of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, Shaw worked closely with its show management in its development, and that of Accent on Design. She leads NY NOW’s green initiative, Sustainability: Design for a Better World.  Shaw serves as a founding member of the NYCxDESIGN Steering Committee, New York City’s official design week, during which Shaw produces Design Pavilion, a 9-day cultural public event intended to increase awareness of the power of design, and NYC Design Talks, offering inspired topics by today’s most insightful design thinkers. Shaw serves on the board of trustees for DIFFA: The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS and co-founded Operation Design, creating mentorships and creative programs between architects, designers, artists and NYC public schools.

Throughout almost three decades of practice, Daniel has been instrumental in delivering public art master plans for Education City, Qatar; Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi; King Abdullah University of Science & Technology & Riyadh Art, KSA; and public art commissions with leading Australian and international artists. His artwork ‘Gathered Together’ is commissioned for the forthcoming National AIDS Monument in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, to be completed in 2022.  Daniel established UAP’s first artist edition program ushering to the birth of Art Makers. This program facilitates and funds the production of new works for artists including Ai Weiwei, Sydney Ball, Penny Byrne, Lindy Lee, Lena Yarinkura, Bob Burruwal, Fiona Foley, Reko Rennie, Mariko Mori and Kehinde Wiley.

Gary E. Wheeler, FASID, is a renowned professional with more than 30 years design experience and a passion for creative excellence. He has led practices at Perkins&Will, Gensler, and most recently, HDR. Distinguished for his strategic approach to workplace design, Gary began his career as co-founder of the Wheeler Group in 1978. When Perkins&Will acquired the company in 1996, he became National Director of Interiors and later Managing Partner of the firm’s headquarter office in Chicago. He joined Gensler’s London office as Director of WorkPlace Europe in 2004, and was Interior Design+Workplace Strategy Global Leader, HDR before joining ASID. Over the years, Gary has worked with companies in a variety of industries, including Apple, JPMorgan Chase, Time Warner, Bates Advertising, Leo Burnett Worldwide, and Marsh.

Jieun Yang, AIA, is the founding principal of Habitat Workshop, an award-winning architecture and urban design practice based in Brooklyn, NY. Habitat Workshop creates spaces, objects, and interactions that activate human connections. Recent awards and honors include AN Best of Design, NYCxDESIGN Awards, Interior Design’s Best in Design, and Women in Design. Jieun is a fellow at the Urban Design Forum and the Institute for Public Architecture, a recipient of the Stewardson Keefe LeBrun Grant and the SOM Prize. Jieun holds a B.A. in architecture from Yale University and an M.Arch from Columbia University GSAPP. Before founding Habitat Workshop, she worked at SOM, BKSK, and 1100: Architect in New York, working on cultural, public, and residential architecture. Jieun is currently an adjunct assistant professor at CUNY City Tech and a faculty at Parsons the New School for Design.
